So Ransom gets a bath most evenings after dinner. We have one of those cool tubs with jets in it, though they hardly ever get used. Every once in a while Ransom has turned them on and scared himself with the noise, though the water's never been deep enough for them to do anything beyond that.
But last night he really wanted to turn them on. It was just at the end of his bath, so I told him that we'd try it the next day. We talked about it a few times throughout the day, and when bathtime came we filled it extra deep to cover most of the jets. But by then he'd lost his nerve, and didn't want to do it. I wasn't going to press him, but Andy, ever the encouraging Daddy, said we'd just turn it on real quick, 'cause he thought Ransom would like it.
That was when we learned the valuable lesson that, if not all the jets are covered, the ones that are exposed violently spit water across the tub, just at face level for a toddler already scared of the noise. Poor kid got soaked in seconds, as did I when he shrieked and threw his wet little arms around me and sobbed.
But all was well. It only took him 30 seconds or so to calm down, though he did bring it up frequently throughout the rest of the bath. :-)
He also spent a good portion of the bath reciting what's become a bit of a catechism to him: "Mama tink cookie dough nummy!! Daddy tink cookie dough yucky!!"
I just discovered a super efficient way to wash his hair (and face). Kinda like a car wash...
